Music

Speak To Me is a compilations of original songs by David Rosenthal, featuring some amazing young talent, names you will hear a lot from in the very near future. David Rosenthal (guitar), Christian Sands (piano), and Earl Travis (bass) were each selected by the GRAMMY Foundation, as outstanding high school musicians from across the US and Canada to be featured in the Gibson/Baldwin GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles. They were flown out to Hollywood along with other select high school all stars, to perform at GRAMMY events with some of the biggest names in the business, Oscar Peterson, Hank Jones, Benny Golson, Barry Harris, Jon Hendricks and Al Jarreau, to name but a few. Jamire Williams, a recent graduate from the New School, has been busy touring with the great saxophonist, Kenny Garrett.

Speak To Me represents the desire to communicate which, on a larger scale, is what artistic expression is all about. In jazz, the exchange of ideas - whether with the audience, or among the musicians themselves - is the source of spontaneity and creativity. Each of my original songs has a meaning, whether something that I want to communicate musically, or a reflection of things that happen around me. Similarly, I am including “Turnaround” by the great Ornette Coleman, which is the song that got me hooked on jazz. As it spoke to me, I hope my music will to you.

Someone apparently forgot to tell David Rosenthal ... that 18-year-olds aren't supposed to sound this good. Rosenthal is a jazz guitarist on the rise, whose fluid artistry and compositional skills rise to the surface on this frequently dazzling debut CD. "Speak To Me" is a wake-up call from a young guitar player who sounds like he's got staying power to spare. 4-Star Rating.
